Autumn

IMG_0355

Crisp apples wrapped in warm, gooey caramel.

Crisp sunshine, giving brilliance to vivid reds, yellows and golds.

Clean, crisp air and crunchy walks in the woods.

Cozy sweaters, boots and jeans.

Cider mills abuzz with families and bees.  Waiting in long-but-worth-it lines, enticed by the sweet smell of the massive apple press mingled with the comforting aroma of warm spiced donuts.

Pumpkins. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin risotto, pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin soup.

Football games and the distant sounds of Saturday morning marching band practice.

Thanksgiving.

Melancholy.  Fading flowers, withering garden.  Good-bye to fresh herbs, dinner on the deck, daily grilling, going barefoot, warm sun on bare skin.  The death of summer, the dread of winter.

Bittersweet season:  Autumn leaves when summer leaves.

Comment here and have no fear. If you regret it or change your mind, just let me know. I will be happy to delete it. (Unless it's about how brilliant I am, then it stays.)
